“I have loved you just as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in His love. I have told you this so that my own joy may be in you and your joy be complete. This is my commandment: love one another, as I have loved you. No one can have greater love than to lay down his life for his friends.”
Remain in my love. In my love, remain. This simple phrase contains such meaning and power. After coming across this passage the other day while reading my bible, I decided to look up the definition of remain: Continuing to exist, especially after other similar or related people or things have ceased to exist. Stay in the place that one has been occupying. To be a part not destroyed, taken, or used up. To be something yet to be shown, done, or treated.
These definitions allowed me to recognize that when all else fails God remains. God continues to exist, ESPECIALLY after other similar or related people or things have ceased to exist. If you allow God to have a place in your heart, He always will. God’s love cannot be destroyed, taken, or used up. Sometimes God’s purpose is something yet to be shown, done, or treated because He is working on you. He wants you to remain in HIS love. What remains is what is left, when everything else is destroyed, gone. God calls us, he TELLS us right here in John 15 to remain in His love. God wants us to find that irreplaceable, beautiful joy in Him. He wants us to feel and to be complete. Whole. We can only do this if we allow ourselves to follow God, follow His commandments, and rely not on this world that is full of uncertainty. This requires us to open up, and be honest with God at all times.
We are beautifully, uniquely constructed individual children of God. Although uniquely defined, we also make up One Body in Christ. This means that loving one another and finding the joy in our lives each day allows us to express the kind of love God calls us to show. Together, in unity, we remain in Christ. We remain in God’s beautiful, unconditional, miraculous love.
Just remember when you are having a hard day or feeling underappreciated, unloved you are NEVER alone. The love of God will always remain in you; you just have to be open to allow it to.
