God’s Plan for You Is Not A Mystery

If only the Holy Spirit could take over my body and type a really thoughtful and helpful blog post. I know He would do a much better job than I ever would. For two weeks I tried to think how I could honor God and help others through words. Lo and behold, I came up with…nothing. I just spent a lot of time wondering why God wouldn’t just tell me what to write about.

Too bad God gives us this thing called freedom, huh? The freedom to make our own choices and live the way we desire. Some of us choose the way of the world and others choose Christ. For those of us who are choosing Christ in this world, sometimes it’s not clear what God wants from us. However, the process of discovering God’s will seems simple: I want to do God’s will; therefore, I will ask Him and He will tell me what it is.

We all know that it does not work that way. God gives us capable minds with which to make decisions. I am pretty sure God does not need you to consult Him about whether you should eat cereal or ice-cream for breakfast. You’re smart enough to make those choices. But what happens when we are honestly and humbly seeking God’s will but don’t hear anything from God?

Perhaps the first reaction is confusion or sadness. Maybe you wish you could just do what you want without having to worry about solving the mystery that is God’s will. I’ve been told many times by a wise priest that God’s will is not some puzzle you need to figure out, otherwise you are doomed forever. God is our Father and He does have a plan for us and as long as we are seeking Him we are working with Him and His plans for us. No matter what you end up choosing, God is going to make something beautiful of it.

When those big decisions come up and threaten the peace that God wants to give you, turn to Him in prayer and strive to live the Christian life and God will guide you. Trust Him. He’s taken care of you all these years, don’t you think He’s got this?
